Russian Easter Cakes in the Village: Recipe and ASMR Sounds

Easter is one of the most significant celebrations in Russian Orthodox Christianity. In the countryside, Easter preparations start way ahead of time with the baking of traditional cakes that are popular in the villages. These cakes are called Kulich and Paskha, and they are made with a combination of natural ingredients that give them a unique and flavorful taste. To make Paskha:

– X lbs farmer’s cheese
– X lbs unsalted butter
– X cups granulated sugar

– X tbsp golden raisins
– X pinch of salt

To make Kulich:

– X cups of flour
– X cups of whole milk
– X cups of white sugar
– X eggs
– X dry yeast
– X tbsp vanilla extract
– X tbsp chopped almonds
– X tbsp raisins
– X tbsp candied orange peel
– X pinch of salt


To Make Paskha:

1. Combine the farmer’s cheese, unsalted butter, and sugar in a large mixing bowl.

2. Mix well, using a wooden spoon or a mixer.

3. Add the sour cream, vanilla extract, raisins, slivered almonds, candied cherry/orange peel, and golden raisins. Mix thoroughly.

4. Line a mesh strainer with cheesecloth and add the paskha mixture.

5. Place on top of a large bowl and refrigerate overnight.

6. The next day, remove the paskha from the cheesecloth and decorate with additional candied fruits and nuts.

To Make Kulich:

1. In a saucepan, combine the milk, sugar, vanilla extract, and salt.

2. Heat over low heat until the sugar is dissolved.

3. Mix the yeast in a separate bowl with warm water and add it to the milk mixture.

4. Mix thoroughly.

5. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing after each addition.

6. Add the flour, chopped almonds, raisins, and candied orange peel.

7. Mix together until all ingredients are combined.

8. Cover the mixing bowl with a towel and let the dough rise for two hours.

9. Preheat oven to 350°F.

10. Divide the dough into three equal parts.

11. Grease three coffee cans and add one part of the dough to each can.

12. Bake for about 45 minutes, or until golden brown.
