Recently we had a chance to take a short getaway with our son and our friends to Pupuan, Tabanan; it’s a highland region located in Central Bali. On this getaway, we decided to do something different, we go GLAMPING 😊
We stayed for 3 days 2 nights at Bali Jungle Camping, it was quite a surprise for my son since he expected that we’ll be staying at the hotel 😁. It took around a 1,5-hour drive from Kerobokan to reach Bali Jungle Camping. The camp itself was surrounded by tall trees, lush forest right in the middle of the coffee plantation.
From the parking lot, we need to walk for 200m to reach the lobby, once we arrived we were greeted by cool breezy air, amazing lush greenery view, and their 3 super friendly dogs. As a welcome drink, they offer us coffee or tea with banana fritters, it was really nice and so traditional.
After the check-in process we headed to our dome, we have to walk down multiple stairs maybe around 200m to reach our dome. They have 2 domes each have its own bathroom and a balcony overlooking the forest. The dome itself was nice, it was equipped with a queen-size bed, 2 nightstands, a bench, and a fan; size-wise, it was cozy and a nice fit for 2 adults and 1 kid.
For dining they made everything fresh, the menu varies from western to traditional Balinese food. The ingredients were planted here and picked freshly before they cook it. They even have their own fish pond, where they catch their own fish. Our son was scheduled to do fishing on the 2nd day, he was so excited to try, but unfortunately, it was raining that afternoon so we have to cancel some of the plans.
On the 2nd day after breakfast, my friend Kiqie and I join a cooking class, we learn to make entil, a traditional Pupuan’s rice cake wrapped in Telengidi leaf (locally grown here); and we also made Sambal Bongkot (torch ginger sambal), it’s traditional Balinese sambal with unique fragrant from the torch ginger. Before we start the cooking process we have to go through the forest to pick up the ingredients, including the leaf, and torch ginger. It was fun learning new things and exploring the forest😉
Oh, in here it’s quite hard to get a good connection and the WIFI only works in the restaurant, so it was quite a detox for us from the social media & work 😁 , but on the good side we can really relax, have some quality time, and enjoy the nature. And definitely no TV!
Our last day staying here, we had a chance to do picnic after making some traditional Balinese cake called Laklak, a round shape cake made from rice flour, coconut milk cooked in clay pan on top of a traditional oven that gives this cake a smoky flavours. The cake was sweet and served with palm sugar and shredded coconut.
It’s time to go home, surprisingly our son really enjoy staying there and can totally stay away from gadget for the whole 3 days! Yay!! He really missed staying at the camp and can overcome his fear of bugs & dogs. I guess staying for 3 days in nature is really good for him😊 He even wanna try & learn new things like cooking. The staff here are very helpful, friendly, and super nice.
So, if you wanna try something new for a quick getaway and try a simple village life, I would recommend this place. Just make sure you bring insect repellent and don’t over packing 😁.
