Xich Lô, Vietnamese Warung

(Bahasa Indonesia) I heard about this warung from a friend who posted a picture of Beef Pho on our foodcious facebook page and instantly makes me drool. It’s a really small warung with only 5 tables situated in front of rice paddy field in Pengubengan, Kerobokan. Xich Lô itself means pedicab in Vietnamese, the owner want all their customers come here to chill out and relaxed enjoying the view while having their fresh and authentic Vietnamese food. This warung were decorated with pictures about Vietnam and unique furniture like they’re using an old sewing machine for their table.

All the food here made from fresh ingredients in particular for the vegetables, even the owner going to plants some of the Vietnamese herbs on the small yard next to this warung. First I tried Cà Phê (20K), a Vietnamese coffee served with condense milk; this coffee have a nutty aroma, not too sour and it has the right amount of sweetness although I added condense milk on it. We have to put extra patience to be able to enjoy this coffee, because it use a filter so the coffee going to drip slowly (but it really worth the wait).

I order Gòi Cuõn (25K) a fresh rice paper roll filled with shrimp, vermicelli noodles, veggies and herbs. You can taste the freshness of all the stuffing and the rice paper on it, served with dipping sauce made of fish sauce, chili and garlic so it compliment with spicy, salty and sour taste. If you don’t like shrimp, you can choose tofu or chicken for the filling. For light appetizer try Gòi Du Dù (18K), spicy and sour papaya salad topped with crunchy peanuts really could brings out your appetite.

Com Thit Nuóng (35K) is one of the favorite menus here, I love the smoky slice pork belly served with ginger aromatic yellow rice topped with crispy pork spring roll, and it’s really yummy. Last but not least Phò Chin (30K) we usually know it as Beef Phò, the broth itself is delicious, light and not fatty with herbs aroma in it really built up your appetite, the rice noodles are fresh; it’s smooth and not dry. It served with additional bean sprouts, lime and basil leafs, to add lots of aroma and flavors into this dish.

If you’re looking for a place to chill out with fresh, healthy food at affordable price, this place can be an option. On Tuesday to Thursday Xich Lô opens from 11am – 4pm, and for Friday to Sunday from 11am – 9pm.
